Hello.
Are 'http://forum.i2p2.de/' blocking any ip-ranges or anything on the open internet currently?
Just wondering since I cannot connect to the site directly, but using any proxy seems to work without problem. I have tried accessing this site since yesterday and figured I try a proxy just to rule out the possibility of being blocked. But apparently I am.
Nslookup for the site works. Pinging the server works. Connecting to port 80 times out. Connection is never established.
'http://www.i2p2.de/', the main page, works by the way.
Anyone knows? |

Spamming -- including SEO-related activity -- is a significant problem on this forum and your IP address might be in one of the IP ranges we've been forced to block. (If you never notice any spam it's because we're constantly at work behind the scenes cleaning it up.)
If this is the case then you'll have to continue using proxies until we unblock the IP range you're in, or you can use forum.i2p2.i2p via I2P. |

Ok, thanks.
Then I know what the problem is.
Don't know what SEO-related activity is, but for the spam you should consider using another method than ip banning for protection. Like solving a simple captcha when posting/registering, or at least allow read-only access with a proper error message when trying to post/register. |

Search Engine Optimization. They generally try to place hyperlinks in various sneaky places around the forum -- posts, sigs, profiles -- so that the links get indexed by search engine spiders, bumping the search engine rankings for the SEO firm's paying customers.

We use multiple methods, and the defenses have been tailored over the years to deal with the evolving threat. IP bans aren't the only (nor the first) tool in the box.

Captchas are no longer effective these days, especially when some of our spammers aren't bots, but live people.

Because I2P is an anonymous community we don't want to force users to register in order to post. We have done so before when under heavy attack, but only as a temporary remedy. |

Viel Erfolg weiterhin. |

The forum is not I2P, it's only a small part of it. So if you're leaving I2P for Tor over a minor (and likely temporary) forum access problem then you're overreacting, especially when you're still able to access the forum in other ways. I personally feel that users should be using I2P when posting to the forum anyhow -- after all, if you're not using I2P for anonymity, why are you here?
That said, you can PM me here or on Irc2P (#i2p-dev) with your specific IP and I will unblock it if it happens to be within one of the currently-banned IP blocks, |

f.t.: tschüü-üss!
smeghead: the problem is intermittent and it happens on forum.i2p too. so it can't be an ip ban. |

That's a different and known issue. We haven't been able to track it down yet unfortunately. |

| OK, the intermittent timeouts should be fixed now. |
